Arboretum University of Padjadjaran

Arboretum comes from the Latin arboreta (tree) and rium (place), thus Arboretum is a place / area to plant trees. Arboretum, University of Padjadjaran (Unpad) not only planting trees but also the terna plants, shrubs that grow on land (terrestrial) or in the wetland / water (aquatic) that is intended as a collection and conservation of plants, especially rare plants in West Java.

Unpad Arboretum is one of the internal institutions which contribute to the teaching-learning process in the campus area in accordance with the pattern Unpad Basic Sciences, Padjadjaran University, the "Majesty of Law Development and Environment in National Development". Arboretum area of 12.5 hectares with a decree passed by the Dean FMIPA UNPAD NO. 36/pt/06/95, divided into several zones, including the zone of medicinal plants, rare plants, plant identity, building plants, and cultivation zones.

Benefits Arboretum:
1. Used as a place of discussion, practical work and research by the various faculties in UNPAD,
2. Place of learning to know the environment and biological diversity for all levels of education and the public.
3. Field Laboratory, The Arboretum is the genetic resources (genetic bank) that holds various collections of rare plant species, especially from the West Java area, plant medicines, plant trees and pond production experiment, various kinds of wild animals.
4. Protect the existing springs in the area Unpad campus.
5. Preserving the rural ecological models such as the traditional courtyard house Baduy, ponds, fields, gardens, and others.
6. Recreation

Placement communities in the Arboretum of rare plants, plant identity, cultivated plants, industrial plants, medicinal plants and water plants and rural ecology. Judging from its location, for the most northern region Arboretum is a rare plant community, the community placed on the northernmost location overall height is the Arboretum area npaling high altitude areas. This region has a high closure of vegetation, so dense and seem to resemble wood.
